The retail chain opened a new proximity unit in Zapopan, Jalisco.
Grupo Chedraui expanded its small-format premium concept by opening a new Supercito Selecto in the municipality of Zapopan, Jalisco. With this opening, announced on social media by Jaime Lozano, expansion director of Grupo Chedraui, the retailer reached 12 stores operating under this model.
At the close of the second quarter of the year, the supermarket chain operated 379 Supercitos, of which 11 belonged to the Selecto format. Across its larger store footprint, Chedraui also manages 35 Tiendas Chedraui and 13 Súper Chedraui units under the premium brand.
The company introduced the Selecto line in 2011 across its larger formats and adapted it to the Supercito convenience model in 2022. The format focuses on higher-income consumers with organic, kosher, gourmet, and exclusive merchandise, competing directly against retail chains such as Walmart Express, Sumesa, Fresko, and City Market.
Analysts at brokerage firm GBM noted in a study that premium supermarket chains have continued to expand despite inflation. The brokerage highlighted that shoppers at these stores prioritize quality, trust, and convenience over low prices, which makes luxury-focused formats less vulnerable to broader drops in mass consumption.
