J.P. Morgan Payments rolls out overnight Murabaha tool
Al Salam Bank becomes the first institution globally to implement the Islamic liquidity service launched in 2026.
Al Salam Bank has become the first lender globally to adopt J.P. Morgan Payments' Overnight Murabaha solution as part of its asset and liability management framework, according to an announcement on October 2, 2026.
Launched in 2026, the Overnight Murabaha product lets client banks earn Murabaha-based overnight returns on cash balances held in nostro accounts with J.P. Morgan Payments. The service aims to optimize liquidity and help financial institutions deploy short-term capital more efficiently amid rising global demand for Shari'a-compliant services, especially across Asia.
Executives from both institutions marked the milestone during the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix event in Malaysia. Hooi Ching Wong, Senior Country Officer for J.P. Morgan Malaysia and ASEAN Head of Corporate Sales at J.P. Morgan, noted that the project combines the bank's global transaction capabilities with client treasury needs in an evolving market.
