Lockheed Martin expands space role with $114M in GPS work
Task orders from the U.S. Space Force will fund ground infrastructure upgrades and GPS IIIF support.
Lockheed Martin announced in September 2026 that it received 114 million dollars in additional task orders for GPS ground-system modernization. The awards cover support for next-generation GPS IIIF satellites and a technology refresh of existing ground infrastructure for the U.S. Space Force.
Upgraded hardware and software aim to enhance security, reliability, and flexibility across the GPS network. Upgrading ground infrastructure helps protect critical space systems from cyber threats and operational disruptions. GPS capabilities remain central to military logistics, precision-guided weapons, and civilian navigation.
The broader push for resilient space architecture is also sustaining demand for peers with dedicated space divisions. Northrop Grumman develops satellite systems for national security missions, while RTX Corporation manufactures navigation and timing technologies for military platforms.
Lockheed Martin shares rose 1.2% over the past year, while its broader industry fell 18.2%. The stock trades at a forward 12-month price-to-sales multiple of 1.40 times, below the industry average of 2.10 times. Zacks consensus earnings estimates for 2026 and 2027 have moved upward over the past 60 days.
