The partnership secures distribution rights for the Sentire system across Europe, China, and Singapore.
On September 1, Medtronic announced a $700 million strategic partnership with Hong Kong-based Cornerstone Robotics. The deal secures distribution rights for Cornerstone's Sentire surgical system in select market-approved regions outside the United States.
Medtronic will co-distribute Sentire alongside its proprietary Hugo robotic-assisted surgery system across Europe, China, and Singapore. The move allows the medical device company to offer tiered hardware options suited to diverse hospital budgets and expand its presence in soft-tissue robotics.
The multi-platform strategy pairs the Sentire system with premier Hugo placements in a surgical market where global adoption remains in single digits. Medtronic aims to build an installed base that drives recurring high-margin instrument and accessory sales, though the $700 million cash outlay adds capital allocation commitments and execution risks alongside existing debt levels.
