Malone will serve as vice president of the DSX Platform to design customer facilities.
Chris Malone, the former head of data centers at OpenAI, joined Nvidia as vice president of its DSX Platform in September 2026, according to his LinkedIn profile. The DSX division assists customers in designing and constructing artificial intelligence data centers based on Nvidia specifications.
Malone left OpenAI in August 2026 amid several executive departures at the AI firm, which plans an initial public offering in 2027. He had joined OpenAI in March 2025 following the announcement of Stargate, a data center initiative with Oracle and SoftBank. Before his tenure at OpenAI, Malone managed data center infrastructure at Meta and Google.
In August 2026, Nvidia agreed to provide 105 billion dollars in credit support for a 10-gigawatt data center in Ohio developed by SB Energy on behalf of OpenAI. OpenAI agreed to lease that site and equip it with hundreds of billions of dollars worth of Nvidia chips.
