The carmaker plans to launch Level 2 automated driving within two years.
Mercedes-Benz announced a definitive commercial production agreement with British autonomous driving startup Wayve on September 22, 2026. The partnership aims to deploy Wayve's AI Driver software into consumer vehicles to close the artificial intelligence gap with rivals in China.
Under the agreement, Mercedes-Benz plans to integrate the technology into at least one consumer vehicle model within a deployment horizon of two years. The software will provide Level 2 driving automation assistance.
The commercial rollout follows joint testing of the system across three cities, where the companies evaluated Wayve's technology integrated with the MB.OS operating architecture.
The contract marks the third production partnership signed by Wayve with a major automaker. The startup raised 1.2 billion dollars in a strategic funding round in February 2026, which established a valuation of 8.6 billion dollars.
