Meta hires MongoDB CEO to lead new enterprise AI unit

Meta announced on Monday, September 28, 2026, that it hired MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai to lead a new business designed to offer its artificial intelligence tools to corporate clients. Desai leaves MongoDB after less than a year as its chief executive, an announcement that sent MongoDB shares down 18% in Monday morning trading.

Desai will serve in the newly created role of Chief Enterprise Platform Officer and report directly to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. He will focus on turning the company's AI suite into commercial products and services. Before MongoDB, Desai led product and engineering at Cloudflare and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, where he served as president and chief operating officer.

The new business line, named Meta Enterprise Platform, will package Meta's AI models, agents, and developer tools for companies. Zuckerberg stated that the offering will initially include the Muse personal AI agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, and Muse Code.

Meta launched Muse earlier this month to handle tasks such as shopping, booking travel, sending emails, and processing payments. MongoDB named former CEO Dev Ittycheria as interim CEO while it searches for a permanent successor.
