Meta's Muse AI agent tops 5 million downloads
The consumer app reached the milestone in under a month, outpacing ChatGPT.
Meta's Muse AI agent has surpassed 5 million downloads as of September 30, according to data from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower. The milestone was achieved less than a month after Meta launched the service on September 8. Muse is currently available only in the United States and Canada.
By comparison, OpenAI's ChatGPT required 56 days to reach 5 million downloads following its November 2022 release. SpaceX's Grok took 103 days, while Anthropic's Claude required 492 days to reach the same threshold. Muse currently ranks as the No. 1 app on both Apple's App Store and the Google Play store.
While other mobile apps such as Disney+, HBO Max, Threads, Candy Crush, Pokémon Go, and Fortnite reached 5 million downloads within a similar window, Muse stands out as a consumer-oriented AI agent. The platform features an easy-to-use interface with a customizable anthropomorphic avatar.
Meta supported the rollout with heavy marketing. Sensor Tower noted that Muse captured 50% of Meta's daily internal ad impressions between September 14 and September 27. It also placed among the top 15 brands by advertising impressions in the United States during that two-week stretch.
Muse is free to download and operate. Meta said it eventually plans to take a small commission on sales executed through the agent.
