Traders await the Banco de México monetary policy decision later in the week.
The Mexican peso began the week with a slight correction on September 21, 2026, trading around 17.22 pesos per dollar according to Bloomberg data. The move represents an appreciation of 0.06% or 7.40 centavos compared to its previous close, as operators prepare for the Banco de México monetary policy decision scheduled for later in the week. At bank branches, Banamex quoted the dollar at 17.63 Mexican pesos.
Gabriela Siller, director of economic analysis at Banco Base, noted that the appreciation of the peso is part of a downward correction following the depreciation observed the prior week, when the dollar strengthened after a Federal Reserve interest rate hike and expectations of another increase before year-end.
The US dollar index (DXY) rose 0.13% to 100.36 units, while the Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index gained 0.08% to 1,204.11 units. In fixed income markets, the US 10-year Treasury yield stood at 4.64%, while Mexico's 10-year bond yield remained at 9.45%.
Across foreign exchange markets, other leading gainers included the South Korean won at 1.04%, the Russian ruble at 0.68%, the Brazilian real at 0.58%, the Hungarian forint at 0.52%, the Chilean peso at 0.42%, and the Polish zloty at 0.25%.
