Novo Nordisk announced a major partnership with Anthropic on Wednesday to accelerate its drug discovery efforts. The collaboration aims to combine Anthropic's frontier artificial intelligence models with Novo Nordisk's research teams to address complex biological reasoning and reshape research and development workflows.
As part of the rollout, Novo Nordisk will test Claude Science across targeted research workflows and scientific problems. The drugmaker also plans to apply the technology to agentic software engineering and broader internal software development.
Mike Doustdar, president and CEO of Novo Nordisk, said the agreement supports the group's goal to become the world's most AI-driven healthcare company, noting that artificial intelligence can boost productivity in R&D and shorten the timeline from laboratory research to marketed therapies. Dario Amodei, co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, stated that the initiative is designed to compress research timelines and enhance outcomes.
The framework establishes specific data governance protocols and human oversight measures to meet Novo Nordisk's compliance and ethical standards.
