PepsiCo plans hundreds of millions in Argentina investments
Athina Kanioura, CEO for Latin America, targets doubling or tripling local growth.
PepsiCo plans additional investments of hundreds of millions of dollars in Argentina across its entire ecosystem, including bottling partners. The strategy seeks to double or triple the company's growth in the country, according to Athina Kanioura, CEO for Latin America and global Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, in an interview with Argentine newspaper La Nación.
Kanioura discussed business plans, infrastructure, and corporate investments during a meeting with Diego Santilli, chief of staff of Argentina's government. She noted that consumer habits shifted significantly over the past 18 months, with shoppers showing less brand loyalty and actively demanding lower calories, protein-rich snacks, and no artificial ingredients.
To address changing consumer preferences driven by the use of GLP-1 weight-loss medications, PepsiCo introduced protein-fortified Doritos in the United States. The company is testing the product in Brazil, considering a launch in Chile, and evaluating a trial for Argentina in 2027 by initially importing the snack. The group also plans to expand NatuChips plantain chips across Latin America and introduce Spanish cold soup brand Alvalle to the region.
The company is also leaning on out-of-home dining formats, such as Doritos Loaded in Argentina and Colombia, and integrating artificial intelligence across supply chains, fleet management, and sales applications to accelerate execution and customize product offerings.
