Promigas unit SPEC returns to 475 mcf/d capacity

Sociedad Portuaria El Cayao, a subsidiary of Promigas known as SPEC, fully restored its gas import capacity on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The Cartagena terminal is once again operating at 475 million cubic feet of gas per day following a failure in one of its regasification trains.

SPEC stated in a release that work on the affected train concluded ahead of schedule. While repairs were underway on one of its four regasification trains, the terminal maintained an available operating capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day.

The terminal is Colombia's sole operating import facility of this scale, supplying natural gas to both residential and industrial users. According to the Colombian Association of Petroleum Engineers, the country could import between 35% and 40% of its consumed gas by the end of 2026.

Other proposed terminals include a Pacific facility in Valle del Cauca scheduled for November 2026 and Puerto Bahía in Cartagena planned for early 2027. SPEC remains the only active terminal delivering imported gas into Colombia.
