Qualcomm powers gFiber's new 20-gig Wi-Fi 8 gateway
The broadband device uses the Dragonwing NPro A8 Elite platform for on-device AI.
Qualcomm Technologies announced on October 12, 2026, a collaboration with gFiber and Gemtek Technology to launch an AI-native, Wi-Fi 8 broadband gateway supporting symmetrical speeds of 20 gigabits per second. The companies unveiled the flagship hardware at the Network X 2026 telecommunications trade show in Vienna.
The device is built on Qualcomm's Dragonwing NPro A8 Elite Platform. It incorporates concurrent quad-band Wi-Fi 8 (802.11bn) connectivity, a penta-core CPU, and a dedicated Qualcomm Hexagon Neural Processing Unit (NPU) alongside an edge AI software framework. This architecture enables local processing for agentic AI tasks, such as natural-language parental controls, guest QR-code generation via an interactive touch screen, and network diagnostics, without relying on cloud processing.
Once fully certified, gFiber plans to upgrade all of its existing symmetrical 20-gig customers to the new gateway. The underlying hardware is also designed to accommodate future speeds up to 50 gigabits per second, with gFiber planning a residential 50G trial on the device by spring 2027 following earlier network testing in Kansas City.
