Royal Caribbean begins building Okinawa terminal
The project with MSC Cruises and Naha Port Authority targets completion in March 2028.
Royal Caribbean Group, MSC Cruises, Cruise Port Naha G.K. and the Naha Port Authority broke ground on October 5, 2026, to begin construction of a new cruise terminal at Naha Port in Okinawa, Japan.
Cruise Port Naha G.K. is a joint venture between RCL Cruises Ltd. and CTL Maritime, representing Royal Caribbean Group and MSC Cruises. The venture will develop and run the terminal under the Cruise Hub Formation Agreement signed with the port authority in August 2026. The partners target finishing construction and starting operations in March 2028.
The project follows the 2019 designation of Naha Port by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as an International Cruise Ship Hub Formation Port. The groundbreaking ceremony brought together public officials including Okinawa Governor Genta Koja and Cabinet Office representatives.
For Royal Caribbean Group, Japan is one of the most important cruise markets in Asia - not only as a destination, but as a long-term partner in our global business. We do not simply bring guests here, we also invest here and with Naha Okinawa, we are investing in infrastructure that will benefit the local community for years to come.
