Sanofi opens CAD 925M vaccine facility in Canada

On 16 September 2026, Sanofi inaugurated the Charles Best Building in Toronto. The CAD 925 million facility is the single-largest investment in a biomanufacturing plant in Canadian history. The project includes CAD 415 million in partnership from the Government of Canada and CAD 55 million from the Government of Ontario.

Located on Sanofi's 52-acre campus, the facility will produce Fluzone High-Dose, an influenza vaccine designed for adults aged 65 and older that contains four times the antigen of standard doses. The Toronto site already distributes vaccines to more than 60 countries worldwide.

Construction began in 2021, and the site is now fully operational. Subject to regulatory approval, commercial production will start in early 2027 ahead of the 2027 to 2028 flu season. The expansion is creating approximately 300 advanced biomanufacturing jobs.

Sanofi employs over 2,000 workers in Canada and reinvests 20% of its revenue annually into biopharma research. The company remains on track to deliver more than CAD 2 billion in infrastructure investments in the country by 2028, alongside a separate CAD 294 million expansion of its artificial intelligence hub in Toronto.
