Stripe Link handles launch checkouts while Shop Pay remains a planned feature
Meta launched Muse, a personal artificial intelligence agent that can browse and place orders on a shopper's behalf through WhatsApp or the Muse app. While Stripe's Link handles checkout at launch, Shopify plans to add Shop Pay to the platform later as a planned integration rather than a live feature.
The agent setup allows consumers to authorize purchases without visiting a merchant's website. Shopify stated that traditional search sessions grew 1.3 times over the past two years, while AI-driven traffic and orders to Shopify stores tripled year over year. Management had noted on 5 August 2026 that transactions on its own agent surfaces carry no new fees or separate pricing, though commercial terms for third-party integrations like Meta remain undisclosed.
The timeline for the Shop Pay integration faces uncertainty. Reuters reported reliability and privacy issues during Meta's internal tests of Muse. Meanwhile, Shopify shares traded near $129.86, down 19.33% year to date, giving the company a market capitalization of roughly $158.4 billion at a price-to-earnings ratio near 129.
