Southwest Airlines plans to launch its first airport lounge network in late 2027. The initial phase includes four lounges at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, and Nashville International Airport. The company also plans at least seven additional locations.

The lounge rollout aims to strengthen the Rapid Rewards loyalty program and retain higher-value passengers. Southwest also plans to introduce a premium Rapid Rewards credit card in 2027 through its partnership with Chase, targeting higher card adoption and ancillary revenues as it moves beyond its traditional low-cost carrier model.

The project will require substantial investment across multiple sites. The airline also faces headwinds from fuel-price volatility, aircraft-delivery constraints, regulatory actions, labor matters, and broader economic and geopolitical uncertainties.

Southwest Airlines shares have gained 24.3% over the past year. In the same period, the broader airline industry fell 1.2%.
