Homebuilders and energy gains offset pressure from higher bond yields across Europe.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 index closed up 0.12% at 639.43 points on September 28, 2026. European equities ended mixed as global sovereign bond yield pressure restrained gains across the continent. Meanwhile, the Frankfurt DAX fell 0.13% to 25,374.42 points, London's FTSE 100 declined 0.10% to 10,684.88 points, and the Paris CAC 40 remained flat, up 0.01% at 8,078.48 points.
British homebuilders advanced after the UK government announced plans to confirm a state-backed loan programme for first-time buyers in next month's budget. Shares of Persimmon climbed 14.68%, Barratt Redrow gained 11.72%, Taylor Wimpey added 11.51%, and Vistry rose 10.66%.
Oil prices gained ground after US President Donald Trump rejected ceasefire conditions presented by Iran, adding to inflation concerns. Brent crude traded above 107 dollars per barrel, lifting the Stoxx 600 energy sector by 1%.
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde stated that monetary policy remains on an intermediate path. She noted that while the oil shock is too large to ignore, a moderate response is appropriate to keep inflation under control, adding that higher sovereign yields should limit economic growth and inflation.
