Loan delinquencies in Argentina have reached a peak and are beginning to show early signs of improvement, according to Gustavo Manriquez, CEO of Supervielle. Speaking to TN during the IDEA Colloquium in Mar del Plata on September 30, 2026, the executive noted that default rates are one of the most delicate challenges facing the financial system.

The rise in past-due loans previously slowed credit origination because fewer individuals and companies met borrowing criteria. To address these pressures, banks have actively offered debt refinancings. Manriquez highlighted September as a potential turning point toward a shift in trend, pointing to emerging demand for corporate financing and concrete investment projects.

Looking ahead, the CEO projected significant credit growth for the fourth quarter of 2026. For 2027, Manriquez anticipated that loan defaults will normalize and will cease to be a major systemic problem after the first half of the year.

Manriquez also stressed the importance of long-term policy consensus across changing administrations to attract sustained capital. He cited the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI) and the continued development of Vaca Muerta as foundational steps for broader investment across the economy.
