Brazil's Ministry of Justice investigates alleged consumer code violations with fines up to BRL 7.5 million.
Brazil's Ministry of Justice opened administrative proceedings to investigate Telefônica Brasil, operating under the Vivo brand, alongside Tim Celular and Oi. The probe examines alleged violations of the Consumer Protection and Defense Code.
The announcement was published in the Diário Oficial da União on 16 September. While the official publication did not detail the exact violations, it highlighted indications of breaches of legal provisions, including Article 6, which guarantees consumers the right to clear and adequate information about paid products and services.
The telecommunications operators have 10 days to present their formal defense. If found liable, the companies could face fines reaching nearly BRL 7.5 million.
