Televisa drops from Mexico benchmark IPC index
Shares tumbled 13.03% following the S&P Dow Jones Indices rebalancing decision.
Grupo Televisa will leave the S&P/BMV IPC, the main benchmark of the Mexican Stock Exchange, following the semiannual rebalancing by S&P Dow Jones Indices. The final composition will be confirmed on 11 September after market close and will take effect on 21 September before the opening bell.
The company's shares fell 13.03% on 8 September, marking their steepest daily drop since 13 March 2020. With this decline, the stock has accumulated a loss of 25.9% in market value year to date according to Investing.com.
Banorte Casa de Bolsa analysts noted that Televisa showed deterioration in its three-month median daily traded value, a key liquidity metric used for index eligibility. Funds tracking the benchmark must sell their positions, which creates selling pressure and reduces trading volume, explained Brian Rodríguez, stock analyst at Monex Casa de Bolsa.
The exit comes as Televisa continues its multi-year restructuring toward telecommunications. The company sold its 50% stake in Sistema Radiópolis in mid-2020 for 1,248 million pesos, spun off its content division into TelevisaUnivision in 2022, listed Grupo Ollamani in February 2024, and completed the integration of Izzi and Sky in the fourth quarter of 2025.
