Tesla plans European Semi truck rollout

Tesla will expand its Semi electric truck to Europe, moving outside North America to enter a heavy-duty commercial market where rivals already sell battery models. The company announced on X that it will share European specifications and rollout plans next week at the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hanover, Germany.

The international move arrives nearly 10 years after Tesla unveiled the Semi in 2017. The vehicle faced repeated delays from an initial 2019 production target because the company prioritized battery supplies for passenger cars. Tesla began limited deliveries to US customers such as PepsiCo in late 2022. In April, the firm reported that the first Semi rolled off a high-volume line in Nevada, though its July shareholder update shifted high-volume output to 2026.

Details on Tesla's German website indicate a model with up to 550 kilometers of range at a 40-tonne gross combination weight. The vehicle consumes around 1 kilowatt-hour per kilometer, weighs about 9,100 kilograms unladen, and offers an electric power take-off of up to 25 kW. Drivers can regain roughly 60% of range in 30 minutes on Tesla's Megacharger network, which delivers up to 800 kilowatts.
