Brazilian telecommunications provider TIM announced it is considering resuming charges for limited internet access once customers exceed their contracted data cap. According to the company, no final decision has been reached, but the change could take effect as early as September.

Currently, customers who reach their data limit can upgrade their plan, renew their current contract, purchase a monthly data add-on, or continue browsing at a reduced speed for free. TIM plans to eliminate the free reduced-speed option and charge users for that limited connectivity.

CEO Stefano de Angelis stated that the plan is to end free web access. Customers who do not purchase an additional package would pay a daily fee of R$ 0.29 to keep using mobile data. The company noted that its other post-allowance packages will remain unchanged.

In a statement to TecMundo, TIM clarified that it had paused charges for post-limit access in June on an experimental basis. That trial period is scheduled to end on August 31. The operator is monitoring customer behavior and could still extend the free-access period or adjust the proposed fee before making a final determination.
