United Airlines has expanded its multi-year Maintenance, Repair and Exchange agreement with FTAI Aviation. The partnership, which initially began with United's V2500-powered aircraft, now covers designated CFM56-7B engines.

Under the exchange framework, FTAI delivers a serviceable engine before each scheduled removal. FTAI then purchases United's unserviceable engine to use as feedstock in its maintenance network, replacing traditional shop visits and reducing aircraft downtime.

The expanded program began with an initial group of engines in 2026 and is scheduled to add more units over time as additional engines reach their removal dates.

Mike Leskinen, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of United Airlines, stated that the deal represents an important step forward for the carrier's Boeing 737 NG fleet maintenance, aimed at improving aircraft utilization.
