US closes probe into 1.08 million Stellantis vehicles

US auto safety regulators have closed an investigation into nearly 1.08 million Chrysler and Jeep vehicles produced by Stellantis. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ended its preliminary evaluation on September 29, 2026.

The closed evaluation covered 1,076,999 vehicles across Chrysler and Jeep brands. Regulators examined reports of underhood fires, including allegations that vehicles could catch fire even when the engine was turned off.

The agency originally opened the inquiry in September 2024 to examine potential fire hazards. That initial probe evaluated an estimated population of 781,500 Jeep vehicles, including Wrangler and Gladiator models.

The safety agency concluded the inquiry following a recall initiated by Stellantis to address the defect. Regulators determined that the company's corrective campaign adequately resolved the safety risk.
