US dollar opens down at COP 3,176 in Colombia
The currency drops 14 pesos on October 6 ahead of upcoming inflation data.
The US dollar opened at COP 3,176 in Colombia on Tuesday, October 6. This represents a decline of 14 Colombian pesos compared to the closing price on Monday. During early trading, the currency touched a minimum price of COP 3,172 and reached a maximum of COP 3,180.
With these moves, the average dollar price stood at COP 3,175. That level is 34 Colombian pesos below the representative market rate reported by the Financial Superintendency of Colombia. Analysts are awaiting the inflation figure scheduled for release on Wednesday, October 7, where a stabilization of the annual variation is expected.
Market attention also focused on a report from JP Tactical regarding external borrowing. The firm stated that securing a financing program with the International Monetary Fund could significantly lower borrowing costs. According to the report, a Precautionary and Liquidity Line could provide an interest rate near 3.7% annually, compared with the 6.6% the market currently demands for similar maturities, representing savings of up to 290 basis points.
JP Tactical added that this financing option gains relevance amid a demanding fiscal scenario. Central government net debt stands near 56% of gross domestic product alongside elevated projected deficits, making IMF access a way to diversify funding sources and reduce pressure on public debt costs.
