Colombia inflation rises to 6.29% in September
The annual rate accelerated from 6.24% in August, matching market forecasts.
Colombia's annual inflation rate reached 6.29% in September 2026, according to official data published by statistics agency DANE on October 7, 2026. The print accelerated from the 6.24% recorded in August.
The result aligned with market forecasts. The Financial Opinion Survey by Fedesarrollo and the Colombia Stock Exchange anticipated 6.32%, while the central bank's monthly expectations survey projected a median of 6.33%. Corficolombiana had estimated 6.25% and Bancolombia projected 6.34%.
Five spending divisions accounted for 5.13 percentage points of the annual variation. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose 5.74% annually and contributed 1.78 percentage points. Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased 6.74%, contributing 1.28 percentage points. Restaurants and hotels posted the highest annual rise at 9.44%, adding 1.06 percentage points. Transport rose 5.27% and added 0.71 percentage points, while education advanced 7.49%, contributing 0.31 percentage points.
Market analysts project inflation to finish 2026 near 6.80% to 6.82%. Analysts also expect the Banco de la República policy interest rate to remain above 12% in upcoming board meetings due to persistent inflation above the target range.
