The US dollar opened lower against the Brazilian real on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, avoiding a correction after plunging more than 4% on Monday. That previous drop marked its largest single-day fall in eight years.

Around 9:20 a.m., the spot dollar fell 0.61% to BRL 4.9704, while the November dollar futures contract slipped 0.60% to BRL 4.9950. At the same time, the commercial euro declined 0.12% to BRL 5.6041. Domestic currency support followed investor expectations regarding the presidential race between Senator Flavio Bolsonaro and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, which drove demand for Brazilian assets.

Broader international movements also weighed on the US currency. The DXY index, which tracks the dollar against six peer currencies, declined 0.36% to 101.80 points. Against other emerging-market peers, the dollar shed 0.72% against the Mexican peso and 0.93% against the South African rand.
