The Nasdaq climbs 1.62% while crude falls for a fourth consecutive day.
Major Wall Street stock indices began the week higher on Monday, September 21, 2026. The move was supported by declining oil prices as investors weighed expectations that diplomatic efforts could end armed conflict in the Middle East.
The Nasdaq led gains with a 1.62% increase to 26,953.18 points. The S&P 500 rose 0.97% to 7,724.74 points, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.48% to 51,931.40 points.
In the commodity market, West Texas Intermediate crude fell 4.93% to $95.36 per barrel, while Brent crude dropped 3.64% to $100.12 per barrel. Analysts at GBM noted that oil prices have fallen for four straight sessions amid prospects of an rapprochement between Washington and Tehran and the resumption of energy transit through the Strait of Hormuz, easing inflation concerns. High diesel prices, however, keep the interest-rate debate active.
European markets also advanced. Spain's IBEX 35 gained 1.24% to 19,756.60 points, Germany's DAX rose 1.14% to 25,059.31 points, France's CAC 40 climbed 1.06% to 8,150.24 points, and London's FTSE 100 added 0.77% to 10,740.48 points. In contrast, Mexican indices fell slightly: the S&P/BMV IPC lost 0.13% to 63,293.50 points, and the FTSE-BIVA dipped 0.02% to 1,283.21 points.
