Novo Nordisk's therapy beat a low 5-milligram dose of tirzepatide in diabetes patients.
Eli Lilly shares climbed about 1.2% to $1,166.74 on Monday, September 21, 2026. The gain came after rival Novo Nordisk released competitive data from a late-stage diabetes study comparing its experimental drug CagriSema with tirzepatide.
In the trial, patients taking CagriSema lost an estimated 12.4% of their body weight, compared with 9.1% for those receiving Eli Lilly's comparator. Novo Nordisk also reported non-inferior blood-sugar reduction. However, the study tested patients with diabetes and used tirzepatide at a low 5-milligram dose rather than its higher approved doses.
CagriSema previously lost to Eli Lilly's Zepbound in an obesity-focused head-to-head trial. Novo Nordisk expects a decision on weight management from the US Food and Drug Administration in the fourth quarter.
