Warner Bros. film 'Digger' flops with $8 million debut
The $100 million production opened across 3,300 screens, including premium IMAX formats.
Warner Bros. Discovery faces a major box office disappointment after its new film Digger collapsed on opening weekend. The movie collected an estimated $8 million, with some estimates pointing to $7.5 million, across 3,300 screens.
The production carried a budget exceeding $100 million. Directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the project stars Tom Cruise as an oil tycoon bracing for an ecological disaster. The film holds a 51% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film took over premium IMAX 70 mm screens previously occupied by Odyssey, prompting frustration from IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond due to low attendance. Film industry analyst David Gross noted that while those receipts might work for a small black comedy, this project was financed as a large-scale studio picture.
