The insurer will back Waymo's commercial rollout starting in Germany with specialized coverage.
On 17 September, Allianz Partners announced a partnership with autonomous vehicle company Waymo to develop insurance, claims handling, and safety research solutions for its planned expansion across Europe. Waymo aims to begin its phased commercial deployment in Germany before evaluating additional European markets over time.
The agreement combines the Waymo Driver autonomous platform with insurance, mobility assistance, and vehicle safety capabilities from Allianz Partners, the B2B2C arm of Allianz Group. Additional group units are participating, including the Allianz Center for Technology (AZT), Allianz Versicherungs, Allianz Commercial, and digital claims manager Solvd Group.
The collaboration concentrates on four main areas. In insurance and risk management, the companies will design motor fleet policies, multinational general liability coverage for product liability, and bespoke models for autonomous mobility platforms. Solvd Group will manage digital end-to-end claims processing, while AZT will contribute crash analysis and vehicle safety expertise toward joint research and publications. The companies also intend to evaluate autonomous vehicle recovery solutions over time.
In other corporate activity, Allianz agreed in July to acquire Singapore life and health insurer HSBC Life (Singapore) from HSBC Holdings for 2.09 billion dollars (2.7 billion Singapore dollars).
