Activity across América Móvil's Latin American subsidiaries has remained high over the past month. In Mexico, subsidiary Telcel faced technical challenges in detecting commercial spam calls under an approved reform carrying fines up to 2.3 million Mexican pesos, while the Supreme Court ruled on 6 October 2026 that legal challenges against mobile registry rules will proceed before specialized telecom judges. In South America, subsidiary Claro agreed to deploy an Oracle sovereign cloud infrastructure in Argentina, signed an agreement to host Móvil Éxito on its network in Colombia, won connectivity contracts for 61 health units in Brazil, and acquired a 72.83% controlling stake in Brazilian internet provider Desktop for 1.747 billion Brazilian reais.
Market observers track the operational reach resulting from these expansion moves. Following the Desktop transaction, S&P Global Ratings estimated Claro's broadband market share in the state of São Paulo at 35%, compared to Telefônica Brasil's 31% reported by Anatel data as of August 2026. Dealroom News reported that Claro and WOW Tel hold a combined 39% share of Peru's fiber-optic internet connections under Indecopi antitrust review, while VT Markets noted América Móvil closed the second quarter of 2026 with 80.2 million total fixed accesses.
