American Airlines taps Starlink for 1,030 mainline jets

The carrier will equip 530 Boeing planes and 500 Airbus aircraft with SpaceX connectivity.

American Airlines announced on October 8, 2026, that it will equip its entire mainline fleet of 1,030 aircraft with high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi from SpaceX's Starlink.

The expanded rollout includes 500 Airbus narrowbody aircraft alongside 530 Boeing planes that were added to the program. The Boeing contingent consists of 400 narrowbody jets and 130 widebody aircraft.

The Starlink system provides a target maximum connection capacity of 1 Gbps per terminal. The carrier serves 165 million annual mainline passengers and has another 300 mainline aircraft scheduled for future delivery.
