Sony hosts AI image dataset FHIBE on Mozilla Data Collective
The group adds about 500 images to the benchmark covering 81 countries and regions.
Sony Group Corporation has brought its Fair Human-Centric Image Benchmark (FHIBE) to Mozilla Data Collective. First released by Sony in November 2025, the benchmark is an AI evaluation dataset designed to measure fairness, bias, and model utility in computer vision tasks. As part of the move, Sony is adding approximately 500 images to the collection.
The dataset includes more than 10,000 images representing nearly 2,000 people across 81 countries and regions. Unlike datasets built by scraping web images without user awareness, FHIBE relies on consensual collection along with detailed annotations and metadata.
Sony selected the platform because of its support for informed consent and GDPR-compliant consent revocation. Under the agreement, Sony retains ownership of FHIBE, while Mozilla Data Collective hosts the files for download and manages future consent revocations. The existing terms, conditions, and permitted use cases of the dataset remain unchanged.
Alice Xiang, Global Head of AI Governance and Lead Research Scientist at Sony Group Corporation, said the goal behind FHIBE was to raise standards for ethical data curation in artificial intelligence, with informed consent and fair compensation as core principles.
