The enterprise servers are aimed for 2029 to meet heavy demand from AI developers.
Apple is developing an enterprise AI server built around its own M8 Ultra chips and targeting a launch in 2029, according to a report by The Information on 16 September 2026. The company has also held talks with Nvidia about using its NVLink Fusion interconnect platform to connect the processors.
The planned hardware would come in two configurations, pairing either two or four M8 Ultra chips. The systems would target AI developers, businesses and governments. Some Apple engineers on the project consider Nvidia's NVLink Fusion to be the best connectivity option, although the product could still be cancelled and neither company has publicly confirmed the talks.
New Apple CEO John Ternus, who took the helm earlier this month, backed the initiative roughly a year ago while serving as head of hardware engineering. Sources familiar with the matter noted that his continued backing is keeping momentum behind the project.
The push comes as Mac revenue surged nearly 29% to $10.4 billion in Apple's most recently reported quarter, making it the company's fastest-growing segment. Demand from AI developers buying Mac mini and Mac Studio systems created severe supply shortages, highlighting the limits of consumer hardware for enterprise AI tasks.
