Sovereign dollar bonds fell by up to 1.2% while the Merval declined 0.8% on Monday.
Argentina's country risk index calculated by JP Morgan rose nine points, or 1.72%, to 533 units on Monday, 21 September 2026. The reading marked its highest level since 19 May, when it closed at 547 points, and moved further away from the mid-July low of 402 points, according to Rava Bursátil screens.
The upward move followed an interest-rate increase by the US Federal Reserve last week and oil prices trading above US$100 per barrel amid the Middle East conflict. Analysts at Portfolio Personal de Inversiones (PPI) noted that higher long-term US Treasuries and elevated crude prices continue to pressure emerging-market assets and divert interest from Argentine sovereign fixed income.
Argentine sovereign dollar bonds declined across the entire curve. Local-law Bonar bonds fell by 0.5% in the AE38D issue, while foreign-law Global bonds dropped by up to 1.2% in the GD46D note. The S&P Merval index fell 0.8% to 2,998,956 units, or about US$1,902 adjusted for the contado con liquidación exchange rate (-0.1%). On the Buenos Aires board, YPF fell 3%, Central Puerto slipped 2.4%, and Transportadora de Gas del Sur dropped 1.7%.
In New York, Argentine shares traded mostly higher. Corporación América rose 3%, Telecom Argentina advanced 2.6%, Mercado Libre gained 1.8%, while Irsa and Loma Negra each added 0.9%.
In the foreign-exchange market, the wholesale Argentine peso closed at ARS 1,514.16 per dollar, up ARS 0.14 or 0.1%. At Banco Nación, the retail dollar stayed flat at ARS 1,535, with a banking average of ARS 1,534.21 reported by the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA). The central bank bought US$8 million on Monday. The MEP dollar fell 0.3% to ARS 1,534.44, and the contado con liquidación ended down 0.7% at ARS 1,576.45.
