Boeing sells 10 freighters to Ethiopian Airlines
The agreement includes eight 777-8 Freighters and two 777 Freighters to expand the carrier's cargo operations.
Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines announced on September 30, 2026, a firm order for eight 777-8 Freighters and two 777 Freighters. The agreement makes the carrier the first African airline to purchase the 777-8 Freighter.
The purchase doubles Ethiopian Airlines' order book for the 777X family. The airline previously ordered eight 777-9 passenger aircraft, which had made it Africa's initial 777X customer.
The 777-8 Freighter provides a maximum structural payload of 118 tonnes. According to Boeing, the aircraft delivers the highest payload and range capability among freighters while lowering fuel consumption and operating costs per tonne.
Ethiopian Airlines currently serves more than 70 cargo destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. Brad McMullen, senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing, noted that the order highlights expanding global demand for air cargo and the ongoing partnership between both companies.
