Edge signs a memorandum of understanding on September 25 for a modular project at the Port of Rio Grande.
Edge, the natural gas unit of Cosan's Compass group, entered into an agreement with the state government of Rio Grande do Sul to expand natural gas supply by building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at the Port of Rio Grande. The memorandum of understanding will be signed on Friday, September 25, 2026.
The project has the potential to generate up to R$ 1 billion in investments in Rio Grande do Sul. The terminal aims to increase local natural gas availability, address a key regional energy bottleneck, and attract new industrial operations.
The planned LNG facility will operate in synergy with the São Paulo regasification terminal (TRSP), which Edge already operates in Santos, establishing a new supply route for Rio Grande do Sul. The project is designed as a modular and scalable solution to align supply with demand and allow capacity expansion as new consumers enter the market.
Following the signing, Edge stated that it will conduct in-depth studies covering infrastructure, logistics, supply, demand, and technical, regulatory, and economic requirements for the terminal.
