Compass unit Edge plans BRL 1B LNG terminal in RS

Edge, a subsidiary of Compass, plans to install an onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the municipality of Rio Grande, Rio Grande do Sul. The company announced the project on Sept. 24, 2026, after signing a memorandum of understanding with the state government.

The project will operate in an integrated manner with the São Paulo Regasification Terminal (TRSP), which Edge already operates in Santos, São Paulo. The initiative could generate up to BRL 1 billion in investments in Rio Grande do Sul, according to a press release from Edge.

The facility aims to expand natural gas supply for large consumers, such as industrial clients in Rio Grande do Sul, who face constraints increasing supply through pipelines like Gasbol. Edge noted that project development and capital allocation remain subject to a final investment decision by Compass and approvals from competent regulatory bodies.

Edge was created in 2024 under Cosan to manage assets developed at Compass, including the TRSP terminal and a biomethane purification plant in Paulínia, São Paulo, in partnership with Orizon. Edge purchases LNG from TotalEnergies and other suppliers, trades gas in the free market, and distributes off-grid gas via cryogenic trucks.
