Cummins Outperforms Nasdaq Over 52 Weeks

The industrial machinery maker has dropped from recent highs but maintains long-term gains.

Cummins Inc. has gained 40.5% over the past 52 weeks, beating the 20% return delivered by the Nasdaq Composite over the same time frame. However, the stock has slipped 24.8% since touching its 52-week high of $737.76 on June 18. Over the past three months, shares fell 17.1%, lagging the Nasdaq's 2.2% gain.

The industrial equipment manufacturer holds a market capitalization of $76.4 billion. Its shares have traded below their 50-day moving average since July and below their 200-day moving average since August. Over the past 52 weeks, Cummins has also outpaced industry peer Illinois Tool Works Inc., which saw only marginal share growth.

On August 5, Cummins shares rose 2.3% following mixed results for the second quarter of 2026. Quarterly revenue grew 9.4% year-over-year to $9.5 billion, topping expectations. Adjusted earnings per share reached $6.94, missing Wall Street forecasts. Management pointed to rising power generation demand from data centers as a key growth catalyst.

Among 19 analysts covering Cummins, the consensus rating stands at Moderate Buy. The mean price target is $761.06, representing an upside potential of 37.2%.
