Disney confirms Disney+ will stream 2027 Super Bowl
The decision marks ESPN's first Super Bowl broadcast as the company aims to expand its main app.
The Walt Disney Company confirmed on Wednesday that its flagship streaming service, Disney+, will stream the 2027 Super Bowl. The broadcast will also mark the first Super Bowl production for Disney-owned sports network ESPN.
The move follows a growing industry pattern of placing the championship game on digital platforms. NBC's streaming service Peacock streamed the game earlier this year, and Fox's Tubi carried it in 2025. According to Bloomberg analyst Geetha Ranganathan, choosing Disney+ over ESPN's standalone service reflects an effort to turn Disney+ into the entry portal for the company's wider entertainment ecosystem.
Disney plans to use the massive sports audience for cross-promotion across its streaming bundle, which includes Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. Disney+ recently lifted subscription fees for its ad-free plan by roughly $3 per month. Over the past four years, Disney has increased its streaming prices by 80% to 85%, compared with a roughly 25% increase by Netflix over the same timeframe.
Despite those steep hikes, Ranganathan noted that Disney has not faced elevated subscriber churn. Standalone price increases have instead pushed users toward Disney's discounted multi-service bundle as streaming shifts toward profitability.
