GM delivers missile components for Lockheed Martin's Patriot

General Motors announced on 18 September 2026 that it delivered critical components to aerospace contractor Lockheed Martin. The parts are designated for PAC-3 MSE interceptors, which are used in the Patriot surface-to-air guided missile system operated by the US Army.

The Patriot system can intercept aircraft, helicopters, ballistic missiles, and high-speed cruise missiles at altitudes up to 20 kilometers and ranges up to 60 kilometers. Stephen duMont, president and CEO of GM Defense, stated that the partnership uses GM's precision expertise and large-scale manufacturing capacity to support national defense capabilities.

Lockheed Martin noted that GM Defense delivered parts that typically take months or years to produce. According to The Wall Street Journal, GM is also in talks with Lockheed Martin to supply components for other missiles as US stockpiles decline.

The Pentagon ordered Lockheed Martin in January to triple its production by the end of 2030. Lockheed Martin is investing between $8 billion and $9 billion to expand munitions output, creating thousands of jobs across more than 20 sites under an initiative working on PAC-3 MSE, THAAD, and PrSM missiles.
