Installation of the quantum processor alongside Nvidia GB200 systems is scheduled for 2027.
IonQ announced on Sept. 23, 2026, that it will provide the first on-premise quantum computing deployment at the Nvidia Accelerated Quantum Research Center (NVAQC). Under the partnership, an IonQ Superion 256 quantum computer will be installed at the facility next year and directly connected to an Nvidia GB200 NVL72 system via Nvidia NVQLink.
Workloads between the two architectures will be orchestrated through the open Nvidia CUDA-Q platform. The joint research program will focus on hybrid software development, quantum-GPU co-design, and large-scale system prototyping for applications in financial risk modeling, portfolio optimization, materials science, and drug discovery.
IonQ introduced its sixth-generation Superion platform on Sept. 8, 2026, and is currently taking orders, with first customer deliveries planned for 2027. IonQ Chairman and CEO Niccolo de Masi stated that the company is accelerating its roadmap toward 10,000 qubits and full fault tolerance through the vertical integration of its SkyWater CMOS foundry.
Earlier in September 2026 at IEEE Quantum Week, IonQ and Nvidia published joint research conducted with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee, demonstrating a framework that combines generative AI with distributed quantum algorithms using CUDA-Q.
