The new software enables palmprint verification without requiring dedicated biometric hardware.
Tencent Cloud, the cloud division of Tencent, introduced Palm X on September 24, 2026. The new palmprint verification solution extends its PalmAI technology to standard RGB cameras, allowing smartphones and other camera-equipped devices to verify identities without specialized scanning hardware.
Unlike traditional palm biometrics that rely on dedicated infrared or vein sensors in fixed terminals, Palm X runs entirely as software. The tool supports 1:1 identity verification as well as one-to-many matching to detect duplicate accounts, and it includes built-in liveness detection to defend against spoofing attempts using photos or screen replays.
Enterprises can integrate the solution via mobile software development kits and backend application programming interfaces. The technology is designed to complement existing authentication methods such as passwords, facial recognition, and passkeys across financial logins, Web3 platforms, and membership rewards programs.
Facial recognition is widely adopted for identity verification today, while businesses and users are also looking for more diverse approaches to biometric verification. With Palm X, we are introducing a palmprint-based option that is compatible with standard RGB cameras, making palm verification easier to integrate into existing digital services while giving users a more intentional way to verify their identity.
