The seven-year agreement aims to quadruple production of interceptor propulsion systems.
Lockheed Martin awarded an undefinitized contract valued at more than $6 billion, excluding escalations, to L3Harris Technologies. The seven-year agreement will significantly expand propulsion production for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense missile defense system, known as THAAD.
The contract follows a framework agreement announced earlier in the year between L3Harris and the Department of War to quadruple THAAD propulsion production. It also follows a recent propulsion contract for the PAC-3 MSE program.
Under the agreement, L3Harris will construct a new manufacturing facility to increase production of the THAAD Solid Rocket Boost Motor. The supplier is also expanding its capacity for THAAD Liquid Divert and Attitude Control systems.
THAAD intercepts ballistic missile threats inside and outside Earth's atmosphere, covering short-, medium-, and intermediate-range targets. The system has recorded a 100% intercept success rate in flight testing since production started.
