The carmaker secured priority access to evaluate solid-state battery technology for future electric vehicles on September 24, 2026.
Mercedes-Benz AG and battery developer ProLogium Holding Inc. signed a joint testing agreement on September 24, 2026. The deal gives the German automaker priority access to evaluate ProLogium's latest Gen4 Superfluidized Inorganic Next-Generation Lithium Ceramic Battery cells.
Under the agreement, Mercedes-Benz will conduct electrical, thermal, and safety evaluations at its internal facilities and specialized external institutes to determine whether the cells are suitable for future electric vehicle platforms. The Gen4 platform combines non-flammable inorganic electrolytes, ceramic separators, and proprietary safety mechanisms designed to enable fast charging, high energy density, and stable low-temperature performance.
The testing initiative builds on a partnership started in 2016 that includes direct investments and a Mercedes-Benz representative on ProLogium's board of directors. Over the collaboration, the companies have tested multiple cell designs, including pouch formats, prismatic cells, and bi-polar technology.
Mercedes-Benz also supports ProLogium's planned 44 GWh gigafactory in Dunkirk, France, where initial construction began in February 2026 targeting 4.0 GWh of annual capacity by 2030. ProLogium plans to list on the Nasdaq in the fourth quarter of 2026 through a business combination with Translational Development Acquisition Corp.
