Volkswagen's Bentley reveals $230,000 electric Torcal SUV

Bentley, a luxury unit of Volkswagen AG, unveiled its first all-electric vehicle on September 23, 2026. The Torcal luxury SUV will have a starting price of £173,000 ($230,000) in the United Kingdom, making it the most affordable vehicle in the brand's lineup.

The five-meter SUV represents a fourth model line for Bentley and is the primary project under a $464 million investment at its plant in Crewe, in northern England. The vehicle shares mechanical foundations with Porsche's electric Cayenne and uses Volkswagen group technology. Bentley postponed its earlier target of selling only battery-powered cars from 2035 to take a more cautious approach.

The Torcal accelerates from zero to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in 2.8 seconds, offers a test range of up to 375 miles (604 km), and charges to 80% capacity in about 16 minutes at 400 kilowatts. Interior options include 100% Merino wool fabric made with Fox Brothers, wood trim with up to 1,000 layers of walnut scraps and recycled paper, and a glossy Cricket Ball finish.

The release comes as Volkswagen relies on its premium division to generate cash flow for broader restructuring, software, and electric investments while cutting jobs and factory capacity in its mass-market operations. Bentley sits in Audi's premium brand group alongside Lamborghini and Ducati, where Audi faces United States tariffs and declining sales in China.
