The Mexican peso gained 0.55% against the US dollar to trade at 18.3107 per dollar at 7:30 a.m. Mexico City time on October 12, 2026, according to Bloomberg data. The move could halt a streak of three consecutive losing sessions, after overnight trading saw a low of 18.29 and a high of 18.44 pesos per dollar.

At bank branches, the US dollar sold at 18.89 pesos at Banamex, 18.75 pesos at Banorte, 18.57 pesos at BBVA, and 18.31 pesos at currency exchange houses. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which tracks the green currency against six major counterparts, rose 0.19% to 102.41 points.

Grupo Financiero Monex noted that the exchange rate responded to lower global risk aversion despite rising oil prices caused by attacks in the Middle East. The Mexican currency is attempting to rebound after logging its fifth consecutive weekly loss on October 9, 2026, its worst stretch since the February 27 to March 27 period.

Trading is quiet with a light Monday calendar in both Mexico and the United States, ahead of US inflation figures due on Wednesday. Monex stated that higher-than-expected US inflation would lift expectations for a Federal Reserve rate hike this month, narrowing the rate differential with Mexico and dampening carry trade appeal. Meanwhile, Felipe Mendoza, market analyst at EBC Financial Group, noted that Mexican industrial activity, which grew 3.6% year-on-year through the end of August, also supported the currency.
