The appointment supports a plan to invest 1 billion reais in innovation by 2035.
Motiva announced on Monday, October 5, 2026, the appointment of Gabriel Simões as the new head of solutions within its Technology and Digital Directorate. He joins the team led by Fabio Mota, director of technology and digital, to link business demands with tech initiatives across highway and rail operations.
Simões will oversee platform evolution, system integration, and process modernisation. He brings more than 20 years of experience in technology and digital transformation, having worked at Ambev, Raízen, Adidas, and Vivo. He holds a computer science degree from Faculdade Ruy Barbosa, a master's degree in electrical engineering from Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), and executive education from Wharton Executive Education.
The hiring aligns with Motiva's push to integrate artificial intelligence, generative AI, big data, Internet of Things (IoT), automation, and advanced sensing into mobility operations. The company plans to invest 1 billion reais in innovation through 2035.
In 2025, the company's Innovation, Digital, and Artificial Intelligence Committee approved 13 million reais for minimum viable product projects across engineering, market intelligence, and procurement. The Technology and Digital Directorate was created in 2024 and has already cut system obsolescence by 94%.
